CityGrip Recovery carries out mobile tyre fitting across Lower Edmonton, N9, including Fore Street, Bounces Road, Silver Street, Montagu Road and the streets around Edmonton Green. A technician comes to wherever the car has stopped, whether that is a driveway near Pymmes Park or a parking bay off Hertford Road, and fits a replacement tyre for punctures, blowouts, worn tread, run-flats and TPMS-equipped wheels. Mobile tyre fitting on ordinary roads starts from £140. A job on the North Circular or another fast dual carriageway runs from £250 to £750, because of the extra safety measures involved in working next to fast-moving traffic. There is no call-out fee, and the price is agreed on the phone before anyone travels out. Call or WhatsApp 07960 200253, staffed 24 hours a day.
Fitting a tyre on Fore Street and the A1010
Fore Street is the spine of Lower Edmonton. It's the A1010 as it runs south from Upper Edmonton through to Edmonton Green, before continuing north as Hertford Road towards Ponders End and Enfield Highway. It's a working local road lined with shops and homes rather than a fast arterial, so in most cases a technician can pull in close to the kerb, put out a warning triangle if needed, and get on with the fitting without much fuss.
One thing worth knowing if you break down here: Fore Street also carries Cycleway 1, a roughly 4.5 mile cycle route between Freezywater and Edmonton Green that Enfield Council and Cycle Enfield reporting put at over 177,000 cyclist movements a year. It's a genuinely busy cycle lane, not a painted line nobody uses, so our technician will position the van and any warning signs to keep that lane clear rather than blocking it.
Had a non-fault accident? Your recovery is free.
If another driver was at fault, CityGrip arranges free recovery, secure storage, a like-for-like courtesy car and full claims management, with every cost recovered from the at-fault driver’s insurer. You pay nothing, and your no-claims bonus stays intact.
Bounces Road, Silver Street and around Edmonton Green
Bounces Road sits at the heart of Lower Edmonton, within walking distance of Edmonton Green Shopping Centre, the adjoining bus station and Edmonton Green Overground station. It's a mixed residential and commercial street, and like most of the roads in this pocket of N9 it usually has enough kerbside space for a car to be left safely while a wheel is fitted.
A short walk away, Silver Street station sits on the Weaver line of London Overground, close to one of the entrances to Pymmes Park. If your car has stopped near either station, on Silver Street itself or on one of the residential roads bordering the park, our technician will usually be able to work directly at the car rather than needing to move it first.
Montagu Road and the streets up towards Advent Way
Montagu Road runs north from the North Circular area, past the recreation ground and cemetery, up towards Advent Way, with onward links to the A1055 Meridian Way and the A10 Great Cambridge Road. It's a wider B-road than the residential streets closer to Fore Street, which generally makes it easier to find a safe spot just off the carriageway to fit a tyre.
The retail park on Advent Way, with Screwfix, Howdens and Euro Car Parts among the tenants, sits just over the border in N18 rather than inside the N9 postcode, but we treat it as part of the same job: if you've broken down anywhere along that stretch, whichever side of the postcode line, we'll come out to you.
Parking, the Edmonton Green scheme and where the van can stand
Enfield Council has been consulting on a low-traffic scheme, the Edmonton Green Quieter Neighbourhood, covering more than 50 residential streets in the area bounded by Bounces Road, the A1010, the A406 and Montagu Road. A statutory consultation on the draft traffic orders ran through September and October 2025, and the most concrete part to land so far is a School Street outside Fleecefield and Brettenham Primary Schools, operating Monday to Friday in term time, 8:15 to 9:15am and 3:00 to 3:45pm, with camera enforcement due to start on 13 April 2026. If your breakdown falls on or near that street during those hours, our technician will simply plan the approach around it rather than driving through.
On parking permits, a proposed controlled parking zone for the streets around Balham Road, Croyland Road and Hertford Road, the Edmonton Green North CPZ, did not go ahead. Enfield Council decided not to proceed with it after a 2025 consultation, so there is no permit scheme currently confirmed for that pocket of N9. A separate scheme nearer the stadium only operates on match days. Because these things can change, and because the A406 and A1010 are both roads TfL manages directly and typically enforces as red routes with their own stopping rules, we would still always rather stand the van on a side street than linger on Fore Street or the North Circular itself if there is any choice in the matter.
Fitting at the roadside or towing first: the North Circular question
Most breakdowns in Lower Edmonton happen on ordinary roads, Fore Street, Bounces Road, Silver Street, Montagu Road, the residential streets around Edmonton Green, and on all of these a straightforward roadside fit is normal and safe. That's the from-£140 mobile tyre fitting price.
The North Circular is a different matter. At the Angel Edmonton junction, the A406 runs underneath Fore Street through the Fore Street Tunnel, a 310 metre twin-bore tunnel that opened in 1998 and carries in the region of 100,000 vehicles a day according to the contractor who has worked on its refurbishment. There are three running lanes in each direction and no proper hard standing at that point. If a tyre fails there, or on the wider North Circular stretch through Edmonton, fitting in place usually isn't the safe option. That's why fast-road mobile tyre fitting is priced from £250 to £750 rather than the ordinary-road rate: it reflects the extra time, signage and safety equipment involved, and quite often the better call is to have the car towed a short distance to somewhere safer before the wheel goes on. If a tow rather than a fit is what's needed, that's handled under CityGrip's recovery and towing service for this area, from £80, and we will agree which option applies before anyone sets off.
Run-flat tyres, TPMS sensors and locking wheel nuts
A growing number of cars on the road use run-flat tyres, tyres with reinforced sidewalls designed to be driven on for a limited distance after losing pressure. Run-flats are generally not candidates for a puncture repair once they've been driven flat, because the sidewall structure that let you keep driving is also the part that gets damaged. In most cases a run-flat that's failed needs fitting with a new one rather than repairing.
Most cars built since the early 2010s also carry a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, TPMS, a sensor inside each wheel that reports pressure back to the dashboard. Whenever we fit a replacement tyre, we check whether the TPMS sensor needs resetting or reprogramming so the warning light doesn't stay on afterwards.
If your wheels have locking nuts, have the key or adaptor ready if you can find it before we arrive; it saves time. If the locking key has been lost, the nut can usually still be removed with the right tool, but it takes longer and may add to the job, so it's worth mentioning on the phone when you call so we bring the right kit.
What to do while you wait
If you can, pull off the running lane and onto the verge, a side road or a parking bay, put your hazard lights on, and if you have a warning triangle, place it a reasonable distance behind the car on a normal road. On a fast road with no safe verge, such as the North Circular through Edmonton, it's usually safer to stay well away from the carriageway, ideally behind a barrier if there is one, rather than standing next to the car.
Keep your phone charged if you can, and have your location ready, a street name, a shop or landmark such as Edmonton Green Shopping Centre or Pymmes Park, or what3words if you're not sure of the exact address. We'll ask for the registration, the tyre size if it's visible on the sidewall, and whether you have a locking wheel nut key, so have those ready when you call.
Repair or replace: the BS AU 159 standard
Not every puncture means a new tyre. UK tyre repairs are governed by BS AU 159, and it sets out fairly strict limits on what can and can't be repaired. A repair is only permitted within the central three quarters of the tread, not out towards the shoulder or the sidewall; sidewall damage of any kind is not repairable under the standard, full stop. The damage itself also has to be within size limits, generally no more than 6mm across for the injury, and the tyre has to come off the wheel rim so both sides can be inspected properly. A repair done without removing the tyre from the rim doesn't meet the standard, however neat it looks from the outside.
There's one more rule that catches people out: a tyre that's been driven on while completely flat, even for a short distance, is treated as scrap under BS AU 159, regardless of the size of the original puncture. Driving on a flat tyre damages the inner structure in ways that aren't visible from outside, so once that's happened, replacement is the only safe option. Where a tyre does qualify for repair under all of these conditions, we'll say so on the phone or at the roadside; where it doesn't, we'll explain why before fitting a replacement.
What tends to cause punctures and worn tread around N9
Enfield as a whole actually does relatively well on potholes: reporting based on FixMyStreet-linked data put the borough second-lowest in the UK for potholes per 100km of road over 2021 to 2025, with reports down 29% in the year to 2025 after extra funding. That's the picture on the borough's main roads.
The council's own highway condition reporting tells a more mixed story underneath that headline, though. Around 12%, or 56km, of Enfield's minor U-roads, the kind of residential streets found off Fore Street and around Bounces Road rather than the A-roads themselves, are currently rated in red condition and flagged as needing maintenance, and the balance of planned versus emergency repair work has shifted markedly towards emergency fixes in recent years because of funding pressure. In practice that means a pothole or a patch of broken kerb edge on a quieter side street is a more likely cause of a puncture or a sidewall injury than damage from Fore Street or the North Circular themselves.
Worn tread is a simpler problem to spot yourself. The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre, the same band that BS AU 159 uses for repairs. A 20 pence coin pushed into the main tread grooves is a rough visual check: if the outer rim of the coin disappears into the grooves, tread is likely still legal; if it doesn't, it's worth having the tyre looked at.
Where we cover in and around N9
We fit tyres across Lower Edmonton, N9: Fore Street and the southern end of Hertford Road, Bounces Road, Silver Street, Montagu Road, the streets bordering Pymmes Park, the Angel Edmonton town centre area, Sterling Way, and the roads around Edmonton Green Shopping Centre and station. We also cover the immediately adjoining streets over the N18 boundary, including the Advent Way retail park area.
CityGrip Recovery is based at 68 Ruckholt Road, Leyton, London E10 5NP, and technicians are dispatched out to jobs across this part of north east and north London. If a full recovery or tow is what you actually need rather than a tyre fitted in place, that's covered on our dedicated recovery and towing page for this area, and if the breakdown followed a non-fault accident, that side of things is handled through citygripclaims.co.uk instead.
FAQs
How much does mobile tyre fitting cost in Lower Edmonton, N9?
On ordinary roads, Fore Street, Bounces Road, Silver Street, Montagu Road and similar streets, mobile tyre fitting starts from £140. On the North Circular or another fast dual carriageway it runs from £250 to £750, reflecting the extra safety work involved. There's no call-out fee, and the exact price is agreed on the phone before anyone drives out.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. There's no call-out fee. You're only charged the agreed tyre fitting price, which we confirm with you on the phone before the technician sets off.
Can you fit a tyre on the North Circular (A406) itself?
It depends on exactly where the car has stopped. The North Circular through Edmonton, particularly around the Fore Street Tunnel and the Angel Edmonton junction, is a fast, heavily used road with no proper hard standing in places, so fitting in place often isn't the safe option. In many cases the better approach is to tow the car a short distance to somewhere safer first, then fit the new tyre there. We'll talk through which applies to your situation when you call.
What areas of N9 do you cover?
Fore Street, Bounces Road, Silver Street, Montagu Road, the streets around Pymmes Park and Edmonton Green, Angel Edmonton, Sterling Way, and the immediately adjoining streets over the N18 boundary near Advent Way.
Can a punctured tyre be repaired, or does it need replacing?
That depends on where and how big the damage is. Under the BS AU 159 standard, a repair is only allowed within the central three quarters of the tread, not on the shoulder or sidewall, and only up to a certain size of damage. The tyre also has to come off the rim to be inspected properly. If a tyre has been driven on while flat, it's treated as scrap regardless of the original puncture size. We'll tell you honestly whether yours qualifies for repair or needs replacing.
What is BS AU 159?
It's the British standard that governs tyre repairs in the UK. It limits repairs to the central three quarters of the tread, rules out any sidewall repair, caps the size of the damage that can be repaired at around 6mm, and requires the tyre to be removed from the wheel rim to be assessed. A tyre driven while flat fails the standard outright and has to be replaced.
Can run-flat tyres be repaired?
Generally not, once a run-flat has been driven on while deflated. The reinforced sidewall that lets a run-flat keep going after a loss of pressure is also the part that takes the damage, so in most cases a failed run-flat needs replacing rather than repairing.
Do you deal with TPMS sensors?
Yes. When we fit a replacement tyre we check whether the TPMS sensor for that wheel needs resetting or reprogramming, so the tyre pressure warning light on your dashboard doesn't stay lit afterwards.
What if I've lost my locking wheel nut key?
Let us know when you call. The nut can usually still be removed with the right tool even without the original key, but it adds time to the job, so it helps if we know in advance and bring the right kit.
How do I pay?
The price is agreed with you over the phone before the technician sets off, based on your location and what's needed. Payment is arranged directly with the technician once the work is done.
Are you available 24 hours a day?
Yes. Call or WhatsApp 07960 200253 any time, day or night.
What should I do while I wait for the technician?
Move the car off the running lane if you safely can, onto a verge, side road or parking bay, and put your hazard lights on. Use a warning triangle on a normal road if you have one. On a fast road with no safe verge, stay well clear of the carriageway rather than standing next to the car. Have your location, registration and tyre size ready for the call.
Will the Edmonton Green School Street or low-traffic scheme affect you reaching me?
It shouldn't cause a problem. There's a School Street outside Fleecefield and Brettenham Primary Schools operating in term time on weekday mornings and afternoons, and a wider low-traffic scheme has been under consultation for the residential streets bounded by Bounces Road, the A1010, the A406 and Montagu Road. We simply plan the route around whichever restrictions are live on the day.
Is there a parking permit zone around Fore Street or Bounces Road I should know about?
A proposed controlled parking zone for streets near Balham Road, Croyland Road and Hertford Road did not go ahead, Enfield Council decided not to proceed with it after consultation. There's no confirmed permit scheme currently in place for that part of N9, though it's always worth checking current signage on the day, since these schemes can change.
Do you carry a wide range of tyre sizes?
We carry commonly used sizes and can source less common ones. Tell us the size from the tyre sidewall, or the vehicle make and model, when you call, and we'll confirm what's needed before we come out.
What if my puncture or breakdown was caused by another driver, not my fault?
If the breakdown followed a non-fault road traffic accident, that side of the recovery is handled free of charge through CityGrip Claims, at citygripclaims.co.uk, rather than through the standard tyre fitting price. Mention this when you call and we'll point you the right way.
Do you cover blowouts as well as slow punctures?
Yes. Punctures, sudden blowouts, worn-out tread, run-flat failures and TPMS-equipped wheels are all covered by the same mobile tyre fitting service.
