Start with packed boxes and bags, then list the pieces that need carrying separately: a desk, chair, mattress, bedside unit or shelving. Say which furniture belongs to you and which must stay in the room. A photograph helps show the load, but an item list prevents a shared kitchen or hallway from being mistaken for part of your move.
Give the approximate number of boxes and the dimensions and known weight of anything large or awkward. Books can make a small box heavy, and a desk that fitted through a doorway in pieces may need taking apart before it leaves. Tell us about that when you request the quote.
For only a shop or Marketplace purchase, our furniture collection service may be the closer match. A complete shared flat with several people's belongings is a different job from one student's room; describe the full load so we can plan it correctly.
Plan around your hall's checkout and access rules.
Ask your accommodation team when the room must be empty, where a van can load and whether a lift or loading slot must be booked. Share the vehicle entrance, not just the main reception address. Tell us who can open a gate or barrier and whether visitors helping with a move must sign in.
Keep the route through corridors and lift doors clear while preparing the load. Do not return keys or access cards before you have finished moving the belongings you need to collect. Follow your own accommodation provider's instructions rather than assuming another hall uses the same arrangements.
UCL's moving-out guidance, for example, asks residents to pack and remove their belongings and keep escape routes clear. That is a useful reminder to check your own hall's rules; CityGrip is not presented as a university partner or appointed mover.
What the £100 starting price covers.
The student starting price is £100 with ground-floor loading help. It is not a promise to move every room, distance or quantity for the same amount. Tell us about delivery floors, stairs, a long carry, extra stops and any help needed at the destination so the full arrangement can be quoted.
If collection is above ground level, or an item needs two people, explain that before booking. Do not rely on a lift being available without checking. We confirm the proposed assistance and price for the actual job; no student discount, free packing, automatic insurance upgrade or free storage is implied.
If you prefer an hourly option, van and driver starts from £60/hour, one mover from £80/hour and two movers from £95/hour. Driver-only includes no loading or unloading help; you arrange both. Ask which option and minimum booking suit your inventory before agreeing a quote.
Moving home for the holidays, or into storage?
For a journey outside London, send the delivery postcode when you first enquire. CityGrip takes moves beyond London, but the actual journey and available arrangements must be confirmed. A local student starting price is not a nationwide fixed fare.
If there is a gap between tenancies, arrange the storage space separately and give us the facility address, access hours and room or unit details. Our storage removals service covers the transport enquiry; it does not include storage rental or promise that space is reserved.
A later collection from storage is another journey to plan. Say if you want both legs discussed, including the expected date and destination, rather than assuming the return trip is included.
Keep essentials with you and boxes easy to identify.
Label boxes by room or contents and keep important documents, keys, travel essentials and anything needed immediately separate from the load. Make sure you can identify your boxes if several students are packing in the same communal area.
For monitors and other fragile belongings, describe the item and its packaging. Packing help is available on request, with materials arranged in advance; discuss it before moving day through the packing service. Do not assume a last-minute collection includes boxes or packing.

Can you collect from university halls?
We can discuss a halls collection when you provide the address, inventory, floor, lift and loading arrangements. Check the accommodation provider's access and checkout rules. CityGrip is not presented as an appointed university mover.
What if my room is upstairs?
Tell us the floor, stairs and whether a working lift can be used. The £100 starting offer is for ground-floor loading help; an upstairs collection must be assessed and quoted for its actual requirements.
Can you take my belongings to storage?
We can quote for transport to or from storage that you arrange separately. Give the facility address, access arrangements and inventory. Storage rental and a later return journey are not automatically included.
Can I add packing help?
Packing help is available on request, and packing materials need advance notice. Describe the items and rooms and confirm the scope, materials and full quote before booking.
Is my student quote a confirmed booking?
No. A quote enquiry does not reserve a date. The move is booked only after the details, availability and price have been agreed.
