House removals are for moves of a whole home rather than a few items. CityGrip Recovery arranges house removals in London: you tell us the size of the property, the access at both addresses and your date, and we confirm the movers, what is included and the price before you book. Larger homes can take more than one load, so we say what is planned at the quote stage.
What a house move involves
A house move is more than the day itself. There is the volume of belongings, the furniture that has to be taken apart or protected, the order in which things are loaded, the route out of one house and into the next, and the parking at both ends. Most of the difficulty is decided before the van arrives.
The size of the property is the starting point. A two-bedroom house with modest furniture is a very different job to a five-bedroom family home with a loft, a garage and a garden shed. Tell us the number of bedrooms, whether there are outbuildings, and any very large or heavy items such as a big wardrobe, a piano or a garden storage unit. For items that need specialist handling we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
What we confirm before you book
A good house removal quote answers these questions in advance. We confirm:
- How many movers will be on the job.
- Which size of van, and whether the move is planned as one load or more than one.
- What is included, including help with lifting and, if you want them, packing, taking furniture apart and assembly.
- The price, and what could change it.
If something you need is not included, we say so before you book, not on the morning of the move.
A simple timeline for your move
1. Four to six weeks before
Decide on your date, request your quote and measure large furniture against doorways and stairs at the new home. Book parking space or permits if either address needs them.
2. Two weeks before
Confirm the booking details with us, tell your managing agent or landlord if lift or access booking is needed, and start boxing rooms you use least.
3. The week of the move
Defrost the freezer, disconnect and drain the washing machine, and tell us about anything that needs taking apart. Keep keys, documents and valuables with you.
4. Moving day
Be at the collection address when we arrive, point out anything fragile or awkward, and have the contact for the delivery address to hand.
What affects a house removals quote
- The size of the property and the volume of belongings.
- The number of movers and whether more than one load is needed.
- Access at both ends: floors, stairs, lifts, narrow hallways and the carry from the van.
- Parking, permits and restrictions at each address.
- The distance between the addresses.
- The date and day of the week. Popular moving days, such as Fridays and month ends, can be busier, so ask as early as you can.
- Any charges on the route, such as the Congestion Charge or the ULEZ. Ask whether they are included.
When a smaller service is enough
Not every house move needs a full house removals service. If you are moving a one or two-bedroom home with little furniture, a man and van with one or two movers may be enough. If the main problem is heavy furniture, two men and a van may do. Tell us what you have, and we will say which suits.

How far ahead should I ask about house removals?
As early as you can. Popular moving days, such as Fridays and month ends, can be busier. A quote request does not reserve a date, so agree the details with us as soon as your moving date is fixed.
How is a house removal priced?
It depends on the size of the property and the volume of belongings, the number of movers, access and parking at both ends, the distance and the date. We confirm the price and what is included before you book.
Do you provide packing?
Yes, packing is available on request, and packing materials are available on advance notice only. Tell us what you need when you request the quote, and we give you the price upfront.
Will you take furniture apart and reassemble it?
Yes. Taking furniture apart and assembly are available on request. Tell us which items when you request the quote.
Can you move a piano or other very heavy items?
That needs discussing first. Tell us what the item is, its size and where it is, and we will say whether we can do it.
What happens if my moving date changes?
Tell us as soon as you know. An £80 cancellation fee applies if you cancel with at least 24 hours' notice. If you cancel less than 24 hours but at least 12 hours before your move, 50% of the quoted fee applies. If you cancel less than 12 hours before, the full quoted fee applies and is not refunded, unless the cancellation is because of a medical emergency supported by hospital records, in which case 50% of the quoted fee applies.
What size of van will be used?
It depends on the size of the home. We use small vans such as the Ford Transit Custom and Renault Trafic, Ford Transit short, medium and long wheelbase vans, and Luton vans. A larger home may need a Luton van or more than one load. Luton vans with a tail lift are available. We recommend the van when we quote.
What insurance do you have?
We hold hire and reward insurance. Goods in transit insurance is available at extra cost if you need it: ask for it when you request your quote, and check your own contents insurance as well.
Can you move me outside London?
Yes, we take moves beyond London as well. Put the delivery postcode on the quote form and we confirm the details and the price.
