Heavy furniture
Large sofas, double wardrobes, chests of drawers, tables and mattresses are safer and quicker with two people carrying.
Stairs and no lift
Every flight of stairs adds effort and risk. If there is no working lift, two movers are usually the more sensible choice.
Appliances
Washing machines, fridge freezers and cookers are heavy and awkward. Say if an appliance needs disconnecting first.
Long carries
A van that cannot stop outside means a longer carry. Tell us how far the van will be from the door.
Tight corners
Narrow hallways, turning staircases and small lifts need two people to guide furniture round.
Quicker loading
Two people can usually load faster than one, which matters on a tight loading window.
How a two-mover job works
Two people can lift heavy and awkward items more safely than one, and loading is usually quicker. That is the main reason to choose two movers.
Two movers are not the same as a full house removals team. For a large home with many rooms, a loft and a garage, ask about house removals. For a small job with light items and easy access, a single mover on a man and van booking may be enough. If you are not sure which, describe the job on the quote form and we will advise.
Before the movers arrive
- Measure the biggest items and check they fit through doors, stairwells and lifts.
- Tell us in advance which furniture needs taking apart or putting together. Both are available on request.
- Empty drawers and wardrobes that could shift or be too heavy.
- Disconnect and drain washing machines and defrost fridge freezers. A gas cooker should be disconnected, and reconnected at the new home, by a Gas Safe registered engineer (see the HSE guidance).
- Clear a path from the room to the door and from the door to the van.
- Sort out parking, permits and any lift booking at each address.
- Keep valuables, documents and keys with you.
What to tell us
For the most accurate quote, tell us the collection and delivery postcodes, the date, the floors at each address, whether there is a lift, and a list of the larger items with sizes if you have them. Do I really need two movers?
If you are moving anything heavy or awkward, or going up and down stairs without a lift, two movers are usually safer. For a few light items with easy access, one mover may be enough. Describe the job and we will say.
What can two movers carry that one cannot?
Heavy wardrobes, large sofas, appliances and mattresses are far easier and safer with two people. Anything you could not lift comfortably yourself is a good candidate for two movers.
Is two men and a van enough for a house move?
It depends on the size of the house. For a small home with little furniture it can be. For a larger family home, ask about house removals, where the job is planned around the volume of belongings.
Which van comes with two movers?

It depends on the distance and the time the job will take, the volume and weight of what is being moved, the floors and access, parking, and the day.
