CityGrip Recovery is based in Leyton, East London, and takes calls and WhatsApp messages 24 hours a day on 07960 200253. We agree the price before we set off, with no separate call-out fee, and we guarantee attendance on every job we confirm (the Dartford Crossing itself and its approach roads excepted). The answers below cover how that works, where we operate and what to do if you break down.
Getting help and arrival
How quickly can you arrive?
We cannot give an arrival time, because it depends on where you are, the traffic and, on a motorway, on when the police or National Highways allow access. What we do promise is that we guarantee attendance on every job we confirm (the Dartford Crossing itself and its approach roads excepted). Call 07960 200253 and we confirm the job and the price before we set off.
Are you available for late night recovery?
Yes. We take calls and WhatsApp messages 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. The price is agreed before we set off, and there is no separate call-out fee.
What does guaranteed attendance mean?
Once we have confirmed your job with you and agreed the price, we guarantee to attend. We cannot give an arrival time, because it depends on where you are and, where the police or National Highways are managing the scene, on when they allow access. The guarantee does not extend to the Dartford Crossing itself or its approach roads, where only a constable or traffic officer may move a vehicle at rest because of a breakdown.
What information do you need when I call?
Where you are (the road, your direction of travel and the last junction you passed, or a postcode), your vehicle make, model and registration, what has happened, whether you are somewhere safe and, if you know, where the vehicle needs to go. On a motorway, get to safety first and call us once you are safe.
Can I book a recovery in advance?
Yes. Call or WhatsApp 07960 200253, or send a booking request. We confirm the job and agree the price with you before we set off.
Prices and coverage
How much does car recovery cost?
We agree the price with you on the phone before we set off, and there is no separate call-out fee. The price depends on the vehicle, the distance and the location, and a motorway job is priced differently from an ordinary-road job, so give us your location and destination when you call.
Where are you based and which areas do you cover?
We are based at 68 Ruckholt Road, Leyton, London E10 5NP, with further locations in Ilford and Enfield. We cover every London postcode and the M25 (our attendance guarantee does not extend to the Dartford Crossing itself or its approach roads), and we also take jobs on the M1, M11 and M6. See our areas we cover.
Which vehicles can you recover?
Cars, vans and 4x4s, plus motorbikes, scooters and mopeds. If your vehicle is electric or hybrid, tell us when you call so the recovery can be planned around it.
Where can I read your reviews?
We are rated 5.0 from 153 Google reviews (October 2026). You can read them on our Google Business Profile.
Motorway breakdowns and safety
What should I do first if I break down on a motorway?
Get to safety before you call us. The Highway Code (rule 277) says to leave the motorway at the next exit or pull into a service area if possible. If you cannot, go left, stop as far left as possible with your hazard lights on, exit by the side furthest from traffic if it is safe, wait well away from the vehicle behind the barrier, and use the free emergency telephone. See our full steps.
When should I call 999?
Call 999 and ask for the police if you cannot reach a place of relative safety and also cannot get out of the vehicle safely. In that situation stay in the vehicle with your seat belt and hazard lights on. Otherwise, once you are out and well away behind the barrier, use the free emergency telephone. If you are not near one, call 999 and ask for the police (or press your vehicle's SOS button if it has one), or call National Highways on 0300 123 5000. Then call us once you are safe.
Do you work in a live lane?
No. National Highways says recovery operators are never expected to work in a live lane, so do not wait for us in or beside one. Call us once you are somewhere safe. Where the police or National Highways are managing the scene, we attend as soon as they allow access.
Our services
Do you provide recovery services for impounded vehicles?
Yes. We recover vehicles from police pounds and council compounds across Greater London, including Charlton and Perivale. Call us with the pound and the vehicle details and we confirm the job and the price before we set off. See our police and council pound recovery page.
Can you jump start my car or van?
Yes. We provide jump starts and flat battery help in car parks, on driveways and at service stations. Call or WhatsApp with your location and vehicle and we agree the price before we set off. See our jump start service.
Can you help if I have put the wrong fuel in?
Yes. We can deliver fuel and help after a misfuel. If you have put the wrong fuel in, tell us whether you have started the engine since it happened. See our fuel delivery and misfuel help.
Can you help with a puncture or a blowout?
Yes. We offer mobile tyre fitting on ordinary roads and on motorways, with pages for the M25, M1, M11 and M6. The price is agreed before we set off.
What if the accident was not my fault?
If another driver was at fault, your recovery is free and is arranged through our sister service, CityGrip Claims. See how non-fault claims work.
Do you collect scrap cars?
Yes. We collect unwanted or damaged cars, vans and 4x4s for scrap, free of charge, and deliver them to a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility. See our scrap car collection page for what you still need to tell DVLA.
